Lewis and Clark gNET National Park Service The Peter Kiewit Institute Corps of Discovery II Tent of Many Voices

About Lewis and Clark gNET

We are students, faculty and staff within the Peter Kiewit Institute at the University of Nebraska, working in partnership with industry, tribal nations and agencies at the federal, state, and local level. We are working under the mentorship of professionals in the fields of web design, database management, geospatial information systems, data mining, multimedia, educational technology, systems integration, and networking.

The Peter Kiewit Institute includes both the University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Information Science & Technology and the University of Nebraska - Lincoln College of Engineering & Technology. This project is one of many collaborations between the two colleges and their partners in the public and private sector.

Our goals include:

  1. Providing a searchable online database of Lewis and Clark web resources, scheduled events, maps, journals, documents, artifacts, teacher lesson plans and other resources provided by governmental agencies and non-profit efforts participating in the Bicentennial
  2. Creating a user friendly GIS (geographical information systems) interface to extensive and varied datasets related to the Trail and the Bicentennial [link to Federal Agencies/MOU's]
  3. Digitally documenting the Bicentennial experience through a process that will capture, archive, and disseminate to learners of all ages - by Internet and Internet II - videos of presentations and personal interviews from: the Corps of Discovery II traveling exhibit, the Bicentennial Signature events, and other pertinent sites along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail
